Lost in translation (or the article from Hell that made me feel shite)

Voilà les mauvaises nouvelles d'après BBC Scotland et Herald Scotland qui me rendent malade:
"More than half of all foreign language assistants in Scottish state schools are to be axed in the next round of council budget cuts.
Glasgow will be worst hit, with all 35 language assistant posts to be cut in what council leader Gordon Matheson called "the hardest budget we have ever faced".
At least 55 of the current 105 posts across the country are to go in a move that has been condemned by teachers' unions, translators and the British Council, which recruits foreign language assistants. Teachers said they feared saving money was taking priority over education.

Argyll and Bute Council confirmed it would axe six posts this year, saving £60,000, while Aberdeenshire Council is to cut 14 assistants. Out of 23 councils who responded to a BBC survey, only five - Edinburgh, Orkney, East Renfrewshire, Angus and Inverclyde - said they planned to maintain or create new posts this coming year.

A spokesman for the British Council in Scotland said: "In an increasingly international world, foreign language assistants provide a unique opportunity for Scottish students to experience different languages and cultures in the classroom.
"It is obviously disappointing that fewer students will have access to these experiences next year, but we recognise the current funding pressures local authorities are under."

On translators' website www.proz.com, one Glasgow-based translator wrote: "This is very disheartening, especially because, at the same time, reports are being published about the lack of foreign-language skills among students and graduates in the UK.
"I guess decision-makers don't mind the fact that English-speaking nations tend to already be seen as inherently ignorant of other languages and cultures."

The move to cut the use of native speakers in schools was also condemned by the German Consul to Scotland, who has been an outspoken critic of the lack of priority given to language studies. Wolfgang Moessinger said: "The decline in the number of foreign language assistants is just a symptom." [Children are supposed to be at the center of what education is but nothing is done to help them to develop their knowledge. They have a terrible knowledge about History, about their own culture, their own country and it's worse regarding to what they know of other countries! So please, don't talk about Curriculum of Excellence if you can't even provide a decent education!]
